1. Acknowledgement of Inherent Risks

I understand that horses are large, powerful, and unpredictable animals and that equine activities involve inherent risks that cannot be eliminated regardless of the care taken by Silver Saddle Stables, located at 1900 Riverside Dr., Glendale, CA 91201, its owners, employees, instructors, volunteers, contractors, or agents (“Silver Saddle Stables”).

I also understand that Silver Saddle Stables is an active animal-care and equine facility. Participants may encounter horses, miniature horses, donkeys, dogs, vehicles, equipment, gates, fences, other participants and guests, and changing outdoor or facility conditions.

Risks include, but are not limited to:

● Horses or other animals biting, kicking, bucking, rearing, bolting, stumbling, stepping on, striking, or otherwise behaving unpredictably.

● Falls from horses or during other activities.

● Being stepped on, crushed, pinned, knocked down, or struck by a horse or other animal.

● Equipment or tack failure.

● Uneven terrain, mud, rocks, holes, gates, fences, water, wildlife, insects, weather conditions, and other natural or facility hazards.

● Actions of horses, other animals, riders, participants, spectators, guests, or other persons.

● Negligence of other participants.

● Serious injury, illness, permanent disability, emotional distress, property damage, or death.

I acknowledge that no amount of instruction, supervision, equipment, or safety precautions can completely eliminate these inherent risks.

2. Voluntary Participation

I voluntarily choose to participate in activities at Silver Saddle Stables, including but not limited to:

Horseback riding lessons (mounted and unmounted), groundwork, grooming, tacking and untacking, leading horses, feeding, barn chores, clinics, camps, trail rides, volunteer activities, horse handling, educational programs, and any other equine-related activities conducted on or off the property. I understand participation is voluntary and I may stop at any time.

3. Assumption of Risk

I knowingly and voluntarily assume all risks associated with my participation in activities at Silver Saddle Stables, including known and unknown risks and risks that may be foreseeable or unforeseeable.

I accept responsibility for the risks inherent in my participation and understand that I am participating at my own risk.

4. Release of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by California law, I release, waive, and discharge Silver Saddle Stables, its owners, officers, managers, employees, instructors, volunteers, contractors, affiliates, and agents from any and all claims, demands, causes of action, damages, losses, or liabilities arising out of or related to my participation in activities at Silver Saddle Stables, except to the extent prohibited by applicable law.

This release applies to claims involving personal injury, illness, property damage, disability, or death.

5. Indemnification

I agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Silver Saddle Stables from claims, lawsuits, damages, costs, or attorneys’ fees arising from my actions, the actions of any minor under my supervision, or my failure to follow facility rules or staff instructions, to the extent permitted by applicable law.

6. Safety Rules:

I agree to:

● Follow all instructions given by Silver Saddle Stables staff.

● Never approach or handle a horse or other animal without permission from Silver Saddle Stables staff.

● Wear sturdy, fully enclosed/closed-toe footwear while participating in activities around horses.

● Wear footwear that meets Silver Saddle Stables’ riding safety requirements when riding.

● Wear long pants appropriate for equine activities when riding.

● Never run, yell, or engage in unsafe behavior around horses

● Treat horses, other animals, staff, and fellow participants respectfully.

● Never participate while impaired by alcohol, cannabis, illegal drugs, or any substance that may impair safe participation.

Failure to follow safety rules or staff instructions may result in immediate removal from an activity or from the property without refund.

7. Medical Treatment Authorization

In the event of an emergency, I authorize Silver Saddle Stables to obtain emergency medical care on my behalf, or on behalf of my minor child, if I am unable to provide consent or cannot be reached.

I understand that I am responsible for medical expenses incurred as a result of such care.

8. Health & Safety Disclosure

I acknowledge my responsibility for disclosing any medical condition, allergy, physical limitation, medication, disability, behavioral consideration, or other circumstance that may affect safe participation or require reasonable accommodation.

I understand that I should consult an appropriate healthcare professional if I have questions about my or my minor child’s ability to participate safely.

9. Personal Property

I understand that Silver Saddle Stables is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal property, except as otherwise required by law.

11. Helmet Policy

Silver Saddle Stables requires an ASTM/SEI-certified equestrian helmet for all participants whenever mounted.

Additional helmet use may be required for particular activities at the direction of Silver Saddle Stables staff.

I understand that wearing a helmet reduces—but does not eliminate—the risk of serious head injury or death.

12. California Law & Severability

This Agreement shall be governed by the laws of the State of California.

If any provision of this Agreement is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect to the extent permitted by law.
